Influenced by classic metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, this Australian band released their debut album “Sands Of Time” through LMP in 2003. Colleague SL rewarded their effort with four stars and called it one of the better releases on the LMP label of that year.
We’re another two years further now and here’s the follow-up, called “Silent Company”. Depending on what I hear, Black Majesty isn’t a ‘silent’ company at all. They have become a well-oiled metal machine and have succeeded in writing an album full of good to very good melodic power metal songs. Among the best of them are opener “Dragon Reborn”, the title song “Silent Company”, “Visionary” and “Never Surrender”. Most songs are straightforward, but with a track like “Six Ribbons” (which is a cover of a classic Australian song by Jon English), they prove not to be afraid of some experiment. Ace of the pack is once again vocalist John Cavaliere, who frequently reminds me of Bruce Dickinson. Recorded with Iron Savior mainman Piet Sielck and produced/mixed by Endel Rivers, “Silent Company” is available as a regular album (jewel case) as well as a limited digipak, featuring the bonus tracks “Chasing Time” and “Guardian” (acoustic version) plus a video clip of the title song “Silent Company”.
